Twins at the plate: Six different Twins singled in the first two innings, including MVP Justin Morneau. However, Minnesota had trouble converting on those opportunities -- a caught-stealing and a double play short-circuited the early chances. Jason Kubel hit an RBI double in the eighth, finishing the day with two hits.
Cardinals at the plate: Two Cardinals outfielders kept up their impressive springs. Skip Schumaker doubled and scored in the first, and John Rodriguez rapped a pair of singles. Ryan Ludwick and Tagg Bozied hit back-to-back doubles in the eighth to give St. Louis the win.
Twins on the mound: Starter Scott Baker recovered from a rough start to the spring, pitching three solid innings. He fanned four, allowing a run on three hits and needing only 35 pitches. Kevin Slowey pitched two shutout innings with two hits, one walk and two Ks.
Cardinals on the mound: Kip Wells was dinged for six base hits in his second start, but didn't permit a run in three innings. Wells escaped from a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the second with a double play and a strikeout. Randy Keisler did him one better, breezing through three perfect innings with three strikeouts.
Grapefruit League records: Twins 1-7; Cardinals 5-3.
