Former third-round pick Joe Mather homered for the eighth time in his last 12 games, but Jaime Garcia allowed four runs on seven hits over five innings in the Redbirds' 11-4 loss to the visiting Nashville Sounds. Box

Jess Todd tossed seven innings of one-hit ball and fellow former second-rounder Jon Jay delivered an RBI single in the top of the 11th inning as the Cardinals outlasted the Corpus Christi Hooks, 1-0. Todd took a no-hitter into the seventh before yielding a two-out single to Ole Sheldon. The 22-year-old right-hander walked one and struck out four, lowering his ERA to 1.19 after four starts for Springfield. Box
Class A Advanced Palm Beach Cardinals (Florida State League)
Nick Derba doubled twice and drove in three runs and Tony Cruz belted a two-run homer as the Cardinals posted a 6-3 road win over the Fort Myers Miracle. Starter Shaun Garceau allowed three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts over six innings, but did not factor in the decision. Box
Class A Quad Cities River Bandits (Midwest League)
Nicholas Additon and Mark Diapoules combined on a seven-hitter and Paul Vazquez went 3-for-4 with three RBIs as the River Bandits cruised to a 4-0 blanking of the Kane County Cougars. Box
Springfield starter Jess Todd turned in arguably one of the best starting performances by a Cardinals' pitcher in franchise history. Todd carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, longer than any other Cards' starter in history. After getting the first two hitters, Todd walked Richie Paz. With two outs and a runner aboard in the seventh, first baseman Ole Sheldon singled hard off the glove of third baseman Isa Garcia, into left field. The play was deserved ruled a hit, ending Todd's no-hit bid at a franchise record 6 2/3 innings. Todd Struck out Billy Hart looking to end the seventh.
Todd finished after 90 pitches and seven scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and one walk, while striking out four.

Six Cardinals named to 2008 FSL All-Star Team

Jupiter, FL - The Florida State League Office unveiled the 2008 All-Star teams which will be played on June 14 in Viera, FL, the home of the Brevard County Manatees. The Eastern Division team consists of four current players on the first-place Palm Beach Cardinals and two former players who were recently promoted to Springfield (AA). The four current players include Lake Worth, Florida native Tony Cruz, Donovan Solano, Daryl Jones, and Tyler Henley who is currently on the disabled list. The two recently promoted players are pitchers Jess Todd and Jon Mikrut.
Tony Cruz leads the Cardinals in RBI with 28 and has split most of his time between Catcher and Third Base. The 27th rounder in the 2007 draft has had a lot of success in May, having hit third in the lineup for the better part of the month. In that spot, he is hitting .333 with a homerun and nine RBI in 13 games. In 66 at-bats with runners in scoring position, Cruz is batting .318 with 22 RBI.
Donovan Solano has been everything the Cardinals have asked of him. He has split time at second base, shortstop and third base and has set the table at the top of the order, and has driven in runs in the middle and bottom of the order. Overall on the season, he is hitting .305 with 22 RBI and 25 runs scored. In 52 at-bats with runners in scoring position, he is batting .404 with 21 RBI.
Daryl Jones was tremendous in the month of April, where he batted .344 with three doubles, two triples and a homerun. He has played primarily left field, and has also gotten some time in center and right field. Jones was the Cardinals' third-round pick in the 2005 draft; Touted as a five-tools prospect, he has done it all for the Cardinals and is a huge reason to their success. He is third on the team in stolen bases, second in walks, and second in extra-base hits. He also leads the active roster in OPS with a .839 total.
Outfielder Tyler Henley was arguably the team MVP before going down with an injury that has sidelined him since April 28. He was hitting .313 with six doubles, three triples and three homeruns while being the club's leadoff hitter. He will not be able to play in the All-Star game due to his injury.
Pitchers Jess Todd and Jon Mikrut also made the all-star team, but are currently playing for Springfield (AA). Jess Todd was the St. Louis Cardinals organizational pitcher of the month for April, going 3-0 with a 1.65 ERA, with 35 strikeouts in 27.1 innings. Jon Mikrut was tremendous in the closer role for Palm Beach, going 5-5 in save opportunities with just one earned run allowed in 16.1 innings of work.

With two victories last week, Mura overtook the team lead in wins with five. More impressive, however, was how he got them. The San Diego, Calif. native has flip-flopped from reliever to starter throughout the season and not pitched more than five innings in any of his appearances. That all changed Tuesday and Sunday against the Jupiter Hammerheads and St. Lucie Mets, when he tossed 7 1/3 and 8 1/3 innings, respectively. The Loyola Marymount University product displayed exemplary control, striking out 12 without a walk to bump his season total to 44 -- nine shy of his career high.

The 22-year old right-hander is progressing rapidly through the Cardinals system and impressing at every level. A second-round pick in the 2007 Draft, Todd appeared in seven games for Class A Advanced Palm Beach before moving up to Springfield on May 7. Last week, the 5-foot-11 starter dominated the San Antonio Missions with his 90-94 mph fastball and hard sweeping slider, throwing seven shutout innings. His only setback was his three hit-batsmen. In five starts for Springfield, Todd has a 0.91 ERA with 21 strikeouts and seven walks.
