If misery loves company, the Atlanta Braves entertained the perfect guests Monday night at Turner Field.
Apparently headed to their first postseason-free October since 1994, when a players strike crashed everyone's party, the Braves became the latest team to exploit the Cardinals' fragile starting rotation with a 6-3 beating that included a five-run third-inning barrage against rookie Anthony Reyes.
In a sweltering third inning interrupted by an abrupt downpour, second baseman Marcus Giles, shortstop Edgar Renteria and catcher Brian McCann launched three shots worth four runs in a five-run uprising that erased a 3-0 Cardinals lead.
