Hernandez gives up career high in hits...Mariners fall to Padres
Quote:
HOUSTON -- Right-hander Felix Hernandez wonders how he can feel so good, yet still get hit so hard.
The strained forearm that interrupted a splendid start to the regular season -- 17 consecutive scoreless innings and a one-hit shutout in his second outing -- has completely healed, so that isn't the reason opposing hitters are getting so many hits off him.
The two-seam fastball, his bread-and-butter pitch, has mysteriously disappeared. Hernandez said he doesn't throw that many good ones during his between-start bullpen sessions, and he continues to work with pitching coach Rafael Chaves trying to find the reason and fix it.
"I'm not used to struggling like this," Hernandez said.
