Mariners Spring Training medical update
PEORIA, Ariz. -- The Mariners today issued the following medical updates: Right-handed pitcher Mark Lowe, who had arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow on Oct. 6, 2006, to repair a chondral defect, was examined yesterday by Dr. Lewis Yocum. Yocum, who performed the original surgery, recommended a follow-up MRI to gauge Lowe's progress at this point in his rehabilitation. The MRI will be performed on Wednesday, February 21, and results should be available by Thursday, February 22.
Minor league infielder Sean Burroughs, a non-roster invite to Major League camp, will not report today as originally scheduled. Burroughs, 26, slipped and fell while fishing in San Diego late last week. He separated his right shoulder in the fall and a precautionary MRI revealed a sprained AC joint in the shoulder. Burroughs will continue his rehabilitation in San Diego for the next 7 to 10 days, then be re-examined.
The Mariners have 61 players in camp today for the first day of full squad workouts: 40 roster players, and 21 minor-league non-roster invitees.
