Less than two weeks after being told he’d broken his right wrist, Jeremy Reed was the opening-day center fielder for the Seattle Mariners in April – playing through what turned out to be a sprain.
That might be one of the few good things Reed will remember about 2006.
Certainly, the season didn’t unfold as he or the Mariners hoped. Since July, Reed has been on the disabled list with a broken right thumb – watching his job and his future in the organization seem to recede into the distance.
Ichiro Suzuki is now the center fielder, and Reed has no guarantee he’ll even be with Seattle on opening day 2007.
