Not because they want him back, but because they're afraid to go cold turkey. They don't have the courage to say, "Thanks for the memories, Barry, but we're going in a different direction."
Instead, the Giants will waffle. They will try to placate Bonds' supporters by making him a lowball-ish offer and hoping he is insulted and walks away so the team brass can say, "We tried, but what could we do? He wouldn't negotiate with us."
