BALCO founder Victor Conte denies he ever told a friend that Barry Bonds came to him to "get jacked," as ESPN The Magazine reported yesterday, quoting an anonymous source "close to Conte."

Since the BALCO steroid scandal broke, Conte has denied giving Bonds drugs or having knowledge that Bonds used performance enhancers. Bonds allegedly received the designer steroid THG and the testosterone cream "the clear" through his trainer, Greg Anderson, who also was convicted in the scandal.

But as San Francisco-based U.S. Attorney Kevin Ryan seeks perjury charges against Bonds, the report could be another blow against the slugger's credibility.

As the Daily News first reported, Bonds told the federal grand jury in the BALCO case that he didn't believe the substances he received from BALCO were illegal steroids, a claim that struck prosecutors as hard to swallow at the time.
