IT WILL BE interesting to see what Major League Baseball does next season with Barry Bonds.
As much as baseball would like him to just go away, it can't force Bonds to retire, and it doesn't have the goods to suspend him for doing what a lot of people, including me, believe he did by using performance-enhancing drugs to launch his assault on the home-run record.
Rumor, innuendo and circumstantial evidence aren't enough to carry out formal punishment against Bonds.
But baseball does have the ability to stop Bonds from eclipsing its most cherished record.
Baseball can still guarantee that Bonds will not be the man who passes Hank Aaron and his record of 755 home runs.
