The Giants honored Kirk Rueter before Saturday night's game against the Dodgers. A perfect tribute to Woody would have had Brad Hennessey furnishing six competitive innings, making a nice play or two on the mound and watching with self-satisfaction as the bullpen nailed down a 5-3 victory.
The reality on a foggy night was a little different. OK, it was a lot different.
The Dodgers led 10-0 before every fanny found a seat, they chased Hennessey before he retired a man in the second inning and they won 14-7, ending the Giants' winning streak at five and reminding a sellout crowd of 42,833 which team leads the National League West and which resides in the basement.
