J.T. Snow sits home in Hillsborough living the life of a retired ballplayer, traveling on summer vacations for the first time since middle school, overseeing a remodel of his house, and riding motocross and tubing with his 8-year-old son, Shane. Snow has not swung a bat since the Boston Red Sox released him June 27.
"I haven't done anything except play Wiffleball with my son and throw him batting practice," Snow said. "He's hit some line drives off my chest."
This picture of a suburban squire is askew, however. Snow is not idle by choice, but rather by a lack of interest in his services as a left-hand hitting, Gold Glove-caliber first baseman. In fact, Snow has not retired from baseball and told The Chronicle in a phone interview Tuesday he would like to play in 2007. His list of teams is quite short.
