The Giants have had too many false starts, too many nascent winning streaks that vanished before they reached maturity, for anyone to view their three-game sweep of Texas as anything but three good victories.
Still, their dominance over a winning team and a 6-3 homestand arrived at an opportune time, ahead of an 11-game trip to San Diego, Colorado and Los Angeles that will take the Giants into the All-Star break, a journey through their division that will position them for the summer stretch and could influence management's trade deadline decisions.
After the Giants completed the sweep with a 2-1 victory Thursday, manager Felipe Alou sounded cautious about his team's fortunes.
"It put us a couple of games over .500," Alou said in an underwhelming tone. "We've either been two or three games up, or even, or one game over. Maybe this is a move, but we need a few more sweeps and we need to win a lot of series if we're going to move anywhere. But it's a start, especially at home, or in the daytime. This was a good win."
