BRADENTON, Fla. - Sean Burnett is tuning up for spring training, knowing it will be his final shot to make the Pirates' roster.
The left-hander is out of options, so the Pirates could lose him if he doesn't break camp with the club at the end of March. It's a make-or-break juncture in his career, yet Burnett is not twitchy about the possibilities.
"It's kind of a relief, actually," Burnett said Tuesday. "Not that I want to leave here -- it's a great place and I have a lot of friends here.
"This is the team that gave me the opportunity and drafted me. I feel like I owe them something because I don't feel like I've lived up to my potential, so I want to stay here and work it out. But at the same time, if I have a chance to go someplace else if I don't make this team, that will be a fresh start and a new opportunity."
