Default Pirates to enhance fan experience with upgraded video displays at PNC Park

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced today that the ballclub will install a larger video display for its main scoreboard and add a new light emitting diode (LED) fascia display that will span the ballpark's upper deck.

The new main scoreboard display will have the capability of more than doubling the size of the current video display, as well as splitting into multiple windows to show lineups, statistics, out-of-town game information, animation, video clips and much more. The LED display will provide fans with the latest in-game information, up-to-the-minute player and team statistics and pitch counts, which has been a desired feature for many Pirates fans.

"As the Best Ballpark in America, we are constantly looking for ways to enhance the PNC Park experience," said Tim Schuldt, Pirates VP and Chief Marketing and Sales Officer. "The new displays will allow us to improve the way we inform and entertain our fans, as well as recognize our sponsors."

The Pirates partnered with Daktronics to upgrade the ballpark's video displays in time for the 2007 Home Opener on April 9 when the Pirates take on the St. Louis Cardinals at 1:35 p.m. Daktronics is recognized as the world's leading provider of full-color LED video displays and produced the existing PNC Park main scoreboard video display board.

"We are proud to once again work with the Pirates to make the game day experience for their fans even better," said Will Ellerbruch, Regional Sales Manager for Daktronics. "The new large video board will provide even greater detail and greater impact. The new fascia display will add a whole new dimension to this already great ballpark."

The enhanced main scoreboard display is ProStar® technology and HD-ready. It will have an active area measuring approximately 35 feet high by 82 feet wide, with more than 160 percent greater size and resolution. It will use the latest in full-color LED technology to show a single, wide screen image, or be split into multiple windows to show the latest game information.

The existing video display on the main scoreboard will be disassembled and reconfigured, with additional new display modules, to form a 'ribbon' LED video display across PNC Park's upper deck. The new ProAd® fascia display will span 960 feet from foul pole to foul pole and measure approximately 3 feet in height.
