Brian Rogers Sent To Pirates For Sean Casey
The Detroit Tigers have announced a trade acquiring 1B Sean Casey from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for Erie SeaWolves relief pitcher Brian Rogers.
Rogers, an Eastern League All-Star in 2006, has been the most consistent relief pitcher in the 'Wolves bullpen. He has compiled a record of 3-2 with a 2.39 ERA. Rogers leads the pen in ERA and strikeouts with 69. His 37 appearances ranks second on the team to Ian Ostlund's 43 "I am very excited for this opportunity to play for the Pirates," Rogers said. "Being traded straight up for a big leaguer in Sean Casey is very exciting and I am grateful for the opportunity."
"While it is disappointing leaving my teammates in the Detroit organization, this is such a huge opportunity to further my pitching career," Rogers added.
MANAGER DUFFY DYER ON THE DEAL
"Brian has had a heck of year throwing for us out of the bullpen and he certainly deserves this great opportunity," Dyer said. "He's been a great teammate and he's a good guy and I wish him the best."
"I think he has an opportunity to pitch in the bigs. Hopefully he'll throw well for them in Altoona and gets a chance to pitch for the Pirates when they call players up in September," Dyer added.
