Default Wilson skips day off

<LI>SS Jose Hernandez left Sunday's game after the fourth inning with lower back stiffness. He was replaced by usual starter Jack Wilson, whom manager Jim Tracy wanted to give a day off. Wilson began yesterday having gone 3 for 33 over his previous eight games.

• General manager Dave Littlefield said that he was pleased by reports of LHP Oliver Perez's performance for Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday. Perez, making his first minor-league start since being demoted Thursday, went seven innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits while fanning 13. "The performance speaks for itself as far as the statistics," Littlefield said. "But with Oliver, it's about more than just statistics. It's about his consistency over many starts with throwing strikes and his arm slot."

• OF Jason Bay has now appeared in 272 consecutive games, and there seems little chance he will be given a day off prior to the All-Star break, despite the Pirates not having an off-day before the event. "I guess a lot of people thought (yesterday) might be the day, but I had honestly not given it any thought," Bay said.
