Oliver Perez is no longer in the Pirates rotation, and Ryan Vogelsong is no longer wearing a Pirates uniform.
Those developments occurred Tuesday before the Pirates took an 11-game losing streak into their game against the defending world champion Chicago White Sox. The Pirates have the worst record in the National League and are on the verge of being surpassed by the Kansas City Royals for the worst record in the majors.
Perez was demoted to the bullpen, Vogelsong was designated for assignment, and rookie reliever Jonah Bayliss was called up from Triple-A Indianapolis.
The moves could be the first of several for the Pirates, who likely will call up left-hander Tom Gorzelanny from Indianapolis to start Saturday night in place of Perez.
