The Phillies made a point after last season of trying to upgrade at third base, but it looked as if they would come up empty.
First, they struck out on Mike Lowell, and then Tadahito Iguchi.
Not so with free-agent Pedro Feliz. The Phillies reached a two-year, $8.5 million contract agreement with the third baseman. A baseball source said yesterday that the deal includes a club option for 2010. The agreement is pending a physical, which could come as soon as tomorrow.
An official announcement is expected soon.
