The emotions swing from excitable to lethargic when it comes to the postseason being conducted by Major League Baseball, even when it is taking place in Detroit and St. Louis. But if you're a Phillies fan, mired in the muck of another fruitless October, your emotions have far surpassed anxiety and intolerance.
While it's understandable to shove aside the Mets, who were so potent so early that the NL East was theirs in May, what are we to think when it comes to the Cardinals, the Tigers, or even teams from L.A., Oakland and Minnesota, all of whom managed to exercise a level of intelligence and productivity we're still waiting for the Phillies to display?
Why were they able to get the pitching that the Phillies struggled to find? Why did the Phillies, instead of those contenders, conduct a virtual fire sale in the midst of supposedly competing for a berth in the postseason?
