Default Here is a wild trade idea that's maybe not so wild

Now that Joe Torre has won the power struggle in New York, the next big event is predictable: Trade Alex Rodriguez to anyone willing to accept his paycheck.

At the risk of sounding as if we live in a major market, why can't it be the Phillies?

With a little creative accounting, there's a possible trade here that might make sense for both teams.

A-Rod for Pat Burrell. Even up.

OK, stop laughing and just read on.

Although this is well pasted....I wasnt laughing...becuase it's not even laughable, it's just plain bad, why would the yankees give up arguably the best player in baseball for just another guy for the outfield that is already full in New York? Regardless of the DH spot or not, it's ridiculous. The Phillies would never ever take on the contract of 20 million dollars a season. Not to anyone...not even to Mike Schmidt himself if he played today. They wouldnt pay Soriano, and they wouldnt pay A-Rod the money he wants/would want. The Phillies have a solid team as is, no reason to trade away Burrell and some prospects for a bat they really dont need and pick up some extra 10 million dollars they could use to give a contract to a Freddy Garcia per year or someone like that.

ARod would not be a good fit in Philly. Honestly, I am not sure where he would be a good fit besides NY.

NY is full of over priced players and he is just one of the guys there. One of these days, he is going to produce in the playoffs (see Peyton Manning)

Except he's not a good fit in New York right now...he's despised...and Alex Rodriguez is not just "one of the guys" in New York, he has the biggest Contract in the league, and while he still has that he will never be one of the guys. I think if A-Rod were to move to a smaller team, not in New York, with less pressure, he'll be spectacular....see Seattle and Texas (not that doesnt play bad in New York).

Despite everything else in that article the main reason why it would never happen is the Phillies do not and won't spend that kind of money.

I think he would stand out more if he went to a small market team. His paycheck would be as much as the entire team!

Maybe the Dodgers or Giants or some other left coast team could absorb him.

Perhaps he could replace Barry Bonds when he retires!

Yeah .. I know they are not small markets. I don't think he could go to a small market team.

There would be too much jealousy ... they could only pay him the big bucks.

It's a painful thing isn't it? But very, very true...
