So there is still a big difference between big and small market teams, even with revenue sharing.

I wish MLB would put a salary cap on teams. Then maybe the Yankees could not grab everyone (or the Cubs this year!), and the great players will be spread out.

I would think that would help ticket sales in small markets tremendously.

The big markets will come watch their teams regardless of who is on it .. so I don't think they would lose anything by not having a couple huge names on their rosters.

There's a lot of people that feel like you do, but this is something the owners and players don't want, he chances of that happening are slim...

However, even in large markets, if the team doesnt produce over a long period of time the fans will stop coming, given this is a five or more year span of not winning.

Back to the A-Rod on a small Market...I think no matter where he goes, large or small market team, he's going to get huge press becuase he IS A-Rod, arguably the best player in the game. And I also dont beleive the use of "becuase other players would be jealous" is any reason to keep him in a large market team either, even on a large market team he's still most likely the highest paid player on that team, same as with a small market team, if anything I'm sure they'd be happy to have Alex Rodriguez becuase it means they may actually compete, large or small market.

Baskett, can I ask how long you've been a phillies fan?

My point was if he is on a small market team, they have less payroll, therefore his large contract looks even bigger compared to the rest of the payroll. While he is on the Yankees, there are a bunch of over paid guys ... whereas put him on the phillies and you have the MVP makeing $900,000 a year.

When management determines that there is only 100 Mill to pay all the guys and ARod takes up 25 of that, it stands out a lot more than if he takes up 25 of 200 Mill.
