A's Give 16 Year Old Inoa $4.25 Million Dollars
Quote:

"The A's officially announced they've agreed to terms with right-hander Michael Inoa, the 16-year-old who stands 6-foot-7, throws in the mid-90's and is considered the top prospect coming out of Latin America this year. About six teams made a serious push for Inoa according to Adam Katz, one of the agents representing him. But the A's emerged as the front-runner weeks ago and have stayed in that position both with their financial commitment and their effort to get to know Inoa and his family in the Dominican Republic. They're giving him a $4.25 million bonus, easily the most any major league team has shelled out to an international amateur player not from Cuba. The previous mark was the $2.44 million the New York Yankees gave Wily Mo Pena in 1999."
