The Oakland A's announced on Monday that they signed free agent right-handed pitcher Scott Dunn to a one-year contract.
Oakland also added right-handed pitcher Marcus McBeth from Double-A Midland to the 40-man roster. In addition, the A's signed left-handed pitcher Erasmo Ramirez, infielder J.J. Furmaniak and outfielder Vince Faison to Minor League contracts.
Dunn started the 2006 season with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and was 1-0 with an 11.74 ERA in seven relief appearances before he was sent to the Minors on April 27. At Triple-A Durham, he was 4-2 with a 2.73 ERA in 38 games. The 28-year-old righty also threw with the Angels in 2004 and has a 10.97 ERA in 10 career appearances. Dunn will be with the A's during Spring Training and likely will be in the bullpen with the Triple-A Sacramento Rivercats next season. The A's likely will be looking for another relief pitcher, and it will probably be a lefty to replace southpaw Scott Sauerbeck, who was released in October.
McBeth was drafted by the A's as an infielder in the fourth round of the 2001 First-Yer Player Draft and was converted to a pitcher before the 2005 season. He led the A's Minor League teams with 32 saves in 2006 and was a combined 3-3 with a 3.07 ERA in 59 relief appearances for Class A Stockon, Double-A Midland and Sacramento. McBeth will get a chance to prove himself during Spring Training with the A's and likely will start for the Rivercats next season.
