There is only one step left on the ladder. Jamie Quirk has been a major league player and a big league coach since he retired. The only job that has eluded the Rockies' bench coach is big league manager. That's why he was delighted to speak with Oakland general manager Billy Beane on Wednesday regarding the A's vacancy.
Quirk is expected to fly to Phoenix next week for a formal interview with Beane.
"I think it will be a little more casual because I know Billy," said Quirk, who played with Beane on the A's in 1989. "I am really looking forward to this opportunity."
