OAKLAND -- Much of the talk of the Athletics during September has focused on Frank Thomas' return to the big stage. But as the A's head toward their final 10 games of the season after Thursday, they likely will need another bat to go deep in the playoffs.
On Wednesday, Milton Bradley took one step toward handling that role, as he went 2-for-4 with a homer and two of the A's four RBIs against the Indians. Bradley also is hitting .345 (20-for-58) with seven multi-hit games over the last 15 contests.
Bradley has been a streaky hitter this season, and he went on his first tear when he returned from the disabled list after the All-Star break.
The A's switch-hitter played 17 games in July and hit .406 (26-for-64) with four home runs and 17 RBIs. He slumped through August, batting .223, but he appears to be hitting well for the A's at the right time with a .323 mark this month.
"It's good," Bradley said of his recent surge, "because I've felt like I've been treading water lately. I haven't swung the bat like I'm capable, like when I first came off the DL."
