OAKLAND -- Bobby Crosby got a few phone calls from his friends and family this week that surprised him.
The A's shortstop was in Scottsdale, Ariz., working with trainers on his nagging back injury, and a number of people called him saying they heard he was going to miss the rest of the season.
Crosby's relatives might have been reading the little blurb from the shortstop's profile on ESPN.com, or the bottom line on television.
They might have also taken a glance at The San Francisco Chronicle that quoted manager Ken Macha saying, "I have a lot of things to worry about right now, and it doesn't look like [Crosby's] coming back, so that's not on my list."
"I didn't know anything about it," Crosby said about Macha's words in Minnesota. "That's a fine statement; that's a possibility. Nothing is set in stone yet."
