OAKLAND -- On Thursday, the A's received an off-day for a seventh straight week and they needed it as they head into what looks like their toughest stretch of the season.
Oakland will play 17 games over the next 17 days to finish the regular season, with 10 of those games coming against the Angels (seven) and White Sox. The Athletics are 0-3 against the defending World Series champion White Sox and 6-6 against the Angels this season.
During the last two seasons, September has been the A's kryptonite, going a combined 23-33. In 2004, the A's led the Angels in the American League West by two games on Aug. 30, but went 2-4 against their division rival during the last two series of the year and missed the playoffs by one game.
