Yankees 5, Mariners 1
Chien-Ming Wang improved to 7-0 lifetime against the Mariners. (Julie Jacobson/AP)

Chien-Ming Wang became the AL's first six-game winner and in the process snapped the Yankees' three-game losing streak despite providing a brief scare by having the medical staff examine his right hand. Mariano Rivera, in a non-save situation, closed out the victory.

Despite holding the Yankees hitless after the second inning, Erik Bedard was handed his first loss as a member of the Mariners thanks to four Seattle errors in the first three innings. Ichiro Suzuki scored the Mariners' only run and stole three bases in the loss, Seattle's third straight.

Yankees 6, Mariners 1
Saturday's win was the 254th of Mike Mussina's career. (Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)
Quote:

Mike Mussina won his third straight start with ease due in part to Johnny Damon, who doubled and scored in his first two at-bats and added a two-run homer in the sixth inning to lift the Yankees back to the .500 mark. Each of New York's top four batters collected at least two hits.

Felix Hernandez allowed six runs on 12 hits in his worst start of the season, which secured his second consecutive loss and the Mariners' fourth straight. Ichiro Suzuki drove in Seattle's lone run but also committed one of two errors for the Mariners, whose season total ran to 26.

It's a shame that Rasner pitched way better than Kennedy and Hughes combined.
