Jeter Is Out With Strain Groin

Derek Jeter had hoped that the twinges he felt in his left thigh on Sunday were nothing more than a cramp, but when the Yankees' shortstop was running to first on Monday night while beating out a potential double-play grounder, the same pain shot through his leg and he slowed down, hoping he hadn't hurt himself worse.
Jeter played in the field in the top of the second inning to test the leg but came out of the game afterward and is likely to miss at least Tuesday's game in Kansas City - and perhaps as much as a week - because of a strained left quadriceps muscle.
Jeter had an MRI last night that revealed the strain and while Joe Girardi said, "We're not thinking about the (disabled list) right now," the manager also added, "This is going to take a few days.
"Leg injuries aren't an exact science. Hopefully, it'll be less than a week, but we'll have to see."
