Yankees:

Alex Rodriguez couldn't hit his 500th career homer against the team that surrendered No. 499, but Chien-Ming Wang's seven-plus innings of one-run ball were all the Yankees needed. Melky Cabrera had three hits, including a two-run ground-rule double.

Royals:

Odalis Perez kept Alex Rodriguez stuck on 499 career homers, but he couldn't avoid his 10th loss, which came after he surrendered four runs on eight hits in five-plus innings. The loss was the Royals' 25th in their last 28 games at Yankee Stadium.

Yankees:

Alex Rodriguez wasted little time Saturday, belting a three-run homer in the first inning for his 500th career dinger. A-Rod was one of six Yankees with at least three hits, including red-hot Robinson Cano, who was a homer shy of the cycle.

Royals:

Kyle Davies struggled in his first start with the Royals, allowing five runs in just three innings, and the bullpen didn't fare much better. Kansas City did thrive on offense, as David DeJesus homered and drove in three runs, while Mark Teahen and Ross Gload each chipped in with three hits.

Yankees:

A day after A-Rod hit his 500th homer, Hideki Matsui reached the 100-homer plateau with a solo shot in the third. That proved to be the game-winning run, as the Yanks withstood a Royals rally. Melky Cabrera also went deep, while Bobby Abreu had two RBIs.

Royals:

Joey Gathright enjoyed his first career 4-for-4 day, Esteban German had three hits and Ross Gload delivered a two-run homer, but the Royals couldn't capitalize on a strong offensive day. Gil Meche struggled early, surrendering six runs in four-plus innings -- four runs coming in the second.
