Game 1
Yankees 7, Devil Rays 3

Yankees:

Shelley Duncan will always remember the Yanks' twin bill opener against the Rays, belting his first career homer to cap New York's decisive five-run sixth inning. Hideki Matsui also went deep for the Yankees, who received five innings of two-run ball from Kei Igawa.
|
Devil Rays:
Quote:
|
The Rays jumped out early behind homers from B.J. Upton and Ty Wigginton, but a costly sixth inning in which the Yankees scored five runs proved to be the difference in the twin bill opener. Jae Kuk Ryu allowed five runs in relief and took the loss.

Game 2
Yankees 17, Devil Rays 5

Yankees:

The Yanks came from behind to take the day game of the doubleheader but commanded the nightcap from the first frame. Every starter got a hit and all but one scored during a 20-hit attack that included A-Rod's 497th career homer.
|
Devil Rays:
Quote:
|
The Rays watched an early lead get away in Game 1 of Saturday's twin bill and were never a factor in the nightcap. Starter J.P. Howell allowed three runs in the first inning, giving the Yankees a lead they'd never relinquish. Josh Wilson had three RBIs and B.J. Upton two in the loss.

I was wondering where the hell did this offense come from? It still may be too late, we dug ourselves in a while in the standings.

Yankees 21, Devil Rays 4

Yankees:

The Yankees continued to steamroll over Rays pitching, using a 10-run fourth to cruise to their third straight win. The Bombers cracked six homers, including Alex Rodriguez's 498th career blast and two from Shelley Duncan.
|
Devil Rays:
Quote:

The Rays' series against the Yankees unraveled very quickly this weekend, culminating in the second straight double-digit drubbing. James Shields struggled in the start, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits over 3 1/3 innings. Carlos Pena belted his team-best 23rd homer.
