Yankees 6, Blue Jays 4
Alex Rodriguez is now four homers shy of becoming the 22nd member of the 500-homer club. (Kathy Willens/AP
Yankees:

Alex Rodriguez hit career homer No. 496 among three Yankees homers -- including shots by Hideki Matsui and Robinson Cano, but the Yanks needed Andy Phillips' two-run single in the sixth to go ahead for good.

Blue Jays:
Quote:

Troy Glaus hit two home runs and Alex Rios hit another, but the Blue Jays fell in the series opener. Starter Josh Towers gave up three long balls among six earned runs over 5 2/3 innings. Toronto stranded five runners over the first two frames.

It would be really cool if A-rod could hit his 500th home run in this homestand. Along with lots of yankees wins so it can be good feelings all around.

Yankees 3, Blue Jays 2
Alex Rodriguez, hit by a pitch to lead off the 10th inning, scored the winning run. (Kathy Willens/AP)
Yankees:
Quote:

After Melky Cabrera scored on a Jeremy Accardo balk to tie it in the ninth, Robinson Cano came through in the 10th, driving in Alex Rodriguez to give the Yankees their fourth straight victory. Luis Vizcaino earned the win.

Blue Jays:
Quote:
|
Aaron Hill doubled in Howie Clark to put the Jays up in the eighth, but the Jays' usually stellar bullpen couldn't make it stand. Jeremy Accardo balked in a run in the ninth before Casey Janssen faltered in the 10th inning.

First game winner in Cano's career. Boston lost their game last night, so we are a solid 8 games back.
