Pavano Yankee Career Is Over
Quote:
AFTER SEEMINGLY visiting every prominent doctor in the country aside from Dr. Phil, Dr.McDreamy and maybe Dr.Dre, Carl Pavano finally has an official diagnosis.
And it likely marks the end of his star-crossed Yankees career.
After meeting with Pavano yesterday in Manhattan to compare and contrast the various medical findings, GM Brian Cashman confirmed last night that four doctors have recommended that the oft-injured hurler have reconstructive surgery due to "a damaged ligament" in his pitching elbow. Pavano's agent, Gregg Clifton, said last night that his client would follow his doctor's advice and undergo an operation.
"Some of the doctors say it's possible that if he got some rest and therapy and a throwing program that it's possible he could try to (avoid surgery)," Cashman said before last night's Yanks-Red Sox game, and before learning of Pavano's decision to have surgery. "But there's some risks that go with that and he can do further damage to the elbow. So obviously we're looking at a realistic possibility that he won't pitch for us anymore." "Now that the parties have had an opportunity to discuss this together, they've come to the conclusion surgery is Carl's only option," Clifton told The Associated Press. "We will attempt to schedule surgery as quickly as possible with Dr. (James) Andrews."
