Post Yankees @ Mets Subway Series Recap 5/18-5/20

Yanks lose 3-2

Yanks:
Quote:
The Yankees lineup continued its May sleepwalk against the Mets on Friday, held to just five hits in a series-opening loss. Andy Pettitte pitched well over seven innings, and Hideki Matsui led the offense with a two-run homer.

Mets:
Quote:
Endy Chavez and Oliver Perez were the stars of the night at Shea Stadium on Friday as the Mets took the opening game of the Subway Series. Chavez blasted the game-deciding two-run homer in the fifth inning and Perez was outstanding over 7 2/3 innings. The Mets have won eight of 10 games.

Thumbs down

Yanks lose 10-7
Yankees:
Quote:
A fractured right index finger ended Darrell Rasner's day after just nine pitches and put more stress on the Yankees bullpen, which couldn't contain the Mets. Alex Rodriguez homered during an eighth-inning rally and the Yanks put the tying run up in the ninth, but three Robinson Cano errors proved costly.
Mets:
Quote:
Before being intentionally walked three times, David Wright hit two homers to support Mets starter Tom Glavine, who was strong enough, allowing three runs in six innings to inch closer to career win No. 300 by picking up No. 295. Endy Chavez notched the seventh four-hit game of his career as the Mets secured a Subway Series victory over the rival Yankees and their fourth consecutive win overall.

Yankees:
Quote:
In his big-league debut, Tyler Clippard, the Yankees' seventh rookie starter of the season, pitched -- and hit -- like he belonged. Backed by homers from usual suspects Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada and Alex Rodriguez, the righty held the Mets to a run in six innings and added a double of his own.
Mets:
Quote:
John Maine allowed more than three runs in a start for the first time this season, taking his second consecutive loss as the Mets missed a chance to complete a Subway Series sweep of their rivals from the Bronx. David Wright provided an early lead with his third homer in two days, but it was one of only four Mets extra-base hits. Damion Easley hit a solo homer, his seventh, off Mariano Rivera in the ninth inning.
