Post Igawa Sent To Minors

Quote:
Kei Igawa's big-league career is making a detour to the Minors. Citing inconsistency and ineffectiveness over half of his first six Major League appearances, the Yankees optioned the 27-year-old left-hander to Class A Tampa on Monday. "We just want to get him comfortable doing something different and that's not going to be easy," Yankees manager Joe Torre said. "It's not going to come overnight. The most important thing is that he understands it and trusts the fact that this is going to be good for him."

The Yankees made a $46 million investment in Igawa, a three-time strikeout leader with the Hanshin Tigers in Japan's Central League, but the import has had issues maintaining his performance early in his Major League career.
"I had success here and also failure as well," Igawa said through an interpreter. "To be consistent at the Major League level, I can definitely go down to adjust in the Minors."

What a horrible acquisition by Cashman, this kid has been a bust since he came over here. Hopefully the minor leagues can do him some good, but I wouldn't hold my breath. 2 mistakes and counting for Cashman this season, and I'm sure "The Boss" is all over him like a cheap suit for it.

I disagree a extent Kitty....clearly Igawa hasn't been great but I don't recall Cashman, Torre or anyone else promising that he would be right away. He was dubbed as a player who needed some time to develop from the day we signed him as I recall.

We had to pay 46 plus million which IMO is outrageous if you going to wait for him to develope. He is suppose to be a hot shot so why would Cashman sign him to sit?

We gave his team a posting fee of 26 million not 40. We then signed him for another 20 million making the total 46 million which may be the # you are thinking of.

As to your question...I assume and hope that Cashman believes that Igawa's potential is worth that 46 million.

Sorry 46 milliion dollars for potential is outrageous, and from what I was told Cashman believe he would be solid not a wait and see development player.

Hmmm...all I remember is that there was speculation that he would be the 5th starter. I suppose that implie that he would be "solid."

I didn't hear much about what Cashman believed. 46 million is alot but you have to remember the 20 million dollar contract we gave him is for 5 years I believe.

Signing him to a longterm deal like that indicates to me that he fits into our longterm plans in Cashman's mind.

You would know more then me though being in NY and all. All and all though I do agree that he's been a disapointment so far and a waste of a good amount of $$.
