Great start for NY getting to Baek early and scoring 5 in the first.

I am still a bit concerned though since Igawa is throwing way to many balls IMO...

19 strikes to 16 balls...he needs to improve on that a bit.

Score 5-1 in the 3rd...Mariners score on a HR from the catcher Johjima.

8 runs...one out...just sad.

Thumbs down

Yankees:
Quote:
Given a five-run lead after one inning, Kei Igawa lasted only four-plus innings, allowing eight runs and handing more work to the bullpen, which couldn't stop the Mariners. Johnny Damon had three hits, including a homer, but limped off the field after popping out as the tying run in the bottom of the ninth.
Mariners:
Quote:
Kenji Johjima missed the cycle by a triple and every Mariners starter collected at least one hit to help Seattle set a franchise record for runs in a game at Yankee Stadium with 15. Raul Ibanez and Jose Vidro each had two hits in the Mariners' eight-run fifth.

Yankees 8, Mariners 1

Chien-Ming Wang retired the first 22 batters he faced in Saturday afternoon's win. (Julie Jacobson/AP)

Yankees:
Quote:
Chien-Ming Wang carried a perfect game through 7 1/3 innings before a Ben Broussard homer broke up his bid to become the fourth pitcher in club history to achieve perfection. Wang lasted eight innings, the longest for a Yankees starter this season.
Mariners:
Quote:
A day after collecting 15 runs on 20 hits, the Mariners managed next to nothing at the plate against Yankees starter Chien-Ming Wang, who didn't allow a baserunner until Ben Broussard homered with one out in the eighth inning. Jeff Weaver held his former team to a run until the Yankees scored five in the sixth inning.

Nice way to bounce back after our pitching debacle the night before. It appears Wang has had his best outing of the season.
