In what could be a precursor to his being named MVP, Derek Jeter was named the American League's winner of the Hank Aaron Award last night.
The award, voted on by fans, is given to the top offensive player in each league. Philadelphia's Ryan Howard was the NL winner.
The AL MVP award voting will be revealed on Nov. 21.
In St. Louis to receive the award, Jeter couldn't escape talk about whether Alex Rodriguez would — or should — be back with the Yankees next season.
"Do I expect him to be back? Yeah, why wouldn't I expect him to be back?'' Jeter said. "You never sit around trying to figure out with our organization, but Alex has a few more years left on his deal, so I would expect him to be back.''
