Jason Giambi underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn tendon in his left wrist yesterday and is expected to be ready for the opening of spring training.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Andrew Weiland at the Hospital For Special Surgery in Manhattan.
Weiland, the Mets' hand specialist, has an office in the Upper East Side Belaire building hit in the plane crash that killed Cory Lidle last week. It was initially believed Weiland would perform the surgery in his office. Giambi was a high school teammate of Lidle's and played with him in Oakland and the Yankees.
