Yankee pitcher Corey Lidle was laid to rest yesterday in a hilltop grave just miles from his high school baseball field following an emotional service attended by about 1,000, including a contingent of teammates.
Several times during the service, his widow, Melanie Lidle, was nearly overcome with grief. Her legs buckled when she first arrived and saw her husband's casket. Her father held her up. After the memorial, she bent over the casket, sobbing, for several minutes.
Lidle, 34, was killed last week when his Cirrus SR20 plane crashed into an upper East Side high-rise. Flight instructor Tyler Stanger also died in the accident.
