If the Yankees can make a trade before the July 31 non-waiver deadline, Joe Torre would prefer a hitter.
"Offense has been a problem for us," the manager said. "In terms of thinking we need something now, I'd say more on the offensive end."
Torre's comments came before he watched the Yankees get rocked 19-1 by the Cleveland Indians last night as Shawn Chacon pitched poorly again. But as he pointed out, the Yankees scored only one run.
