Reds 6, Mets 12

Johan Santana was merely good in Saturday's opener of a split doubleheader against the Reds, but with Carlos Beltran on his side, that was more than enough. Beltran drove in a season-high five runs, Carlos Delgado and Brian Schneider homered and Santana improved to 4-2.

Edwin Encarnacion was feeling it in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Mets, stroking a homer in the fourth inning and later adding an RBI single. But Matt Belisle gave up six runs, five earned, in five innings to offset the Reds' 10 hits and three runs against Johan Santana.

We couldn't win the last game of the double header and took an L by the final score of 7-1.

Extra-base hits were the theme of the day for the Mets, who notched six behind Oliver Perez, who tossed six effective innings. Carlos Beltran and Ryan Church went deep, Luis Castillo laced an RBI triple and Moises Alou had an RBI double.

Rookie Johnny Cueto's first trip to Shea Stadium was not a memorable one, as he gave up six runs over 4 2/3 innings, and the Reds could not recover. Jeff Keppinger stayed hot, collecting his seventh straight hit, and Adam Dunn added a sac fly.
