Mets Fan Dies In Escalator Fall At Shea
Quote:
A 37-year-old Mets fan and father of two plunged to his death in a horrifying accident at Shea Stadium Tuesday night, police and witnesses said.
Antonio Narainasami of Cypress Hills, Brooklyn, fell four stories over the side of an escalator on the mezzanine level - in view of his daughters, Emily, 14, and Anjali, 8, relatives said.
Kevin Prashad, 28, a cousin of Narainasami's who attended the game with him, said the accident occurred on an escalator that wasn't running as the family left the game about 10 p.m.
"He was walking down the escalator holding the hand railing," Prashad said. "He lost his footing."
The girls and several of Narainasami's cousins were walking behind him on the escalator, Prashad said.
Narainasami, a Guyanese immigrant whose wife, Ambeka, is pregnant with their third child, had attended the game with a group of eight or nine relatives.
He was not intoxicated or engaging in horseplay when he fell, police and family members said.
"He had his kids with him," Prashad said. "He's a good father. He wouldn't do that."
The victim was wearing a Mets hat and had just seen the Amazin's beat the Washington Nationals, 6-0.
"He was real excited because this is his favorite team," said his heartbroken cousin Vinnie Narainasami at New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens, where Antonio was pronounced dead.
"He was the best guy I've ever known.

What a sad story, you go to the game to have a good time and a tragedy like this occurs. I feel for his family.
