Nelson Figueroa struck out six and gave up two hits in six innings. (Ed Betz/AP)
Mets:

The Mets could not have asked for a better first outing from Nelson Figueroa. The fill-in for Pedro Martinez retired the first 14 batters en route to a solid six innings, and the Mets answered a Brewers rally in kind. Shortstop Jose Reyes left the game after five innings with a tight left hamstring.
Brewers:
Quote:
Manny Parra cruised for three innings, but New York got to him for three runs in the fourth. The Brewers got two of them back, but the Mets tacked on an insurance run in the seventh to put away the opener of a three-game set. J.J. Hardy and Prince Fielder had RBI doubles.

Santana's problem has always been the fact that he gives up the long ball. He has already given up enough homeruns in this game, and it's not even over yet. 3-2 Brewers at the top of the 6th.

Ben Sheets was dealing yesterday. That man could be the best pitcher in baseball, if he could stay healthy.

Once again the Mets pitching has been inconsistent and sometimes just plain dreadful. Walks Walks, Walks, wild pitches, more walks. We had a 6-2 lead in the 3rd...now it's 7-6 Brewers. top of the 7th. Perez and Sosa aren't doing what they suppose to be doing. Minaya better get on the horn and try to acquire some starting pitchers.
