Reports say the Mets are close to deals with both free-agent catchers Ramon Castro and Yorvit Torrealba.

I'm not sure who would the starting catcher (get the majority of starts during the week) but I wouldn't mind the Mets going out and getting the pair.

It's been expected that Castro could be lured away in free-agency by another team offering him a starting gig and more money. I wonder if the Mets will make him the starter. Then why would Torrealba come to back-up Castro?

Torrealba is the best catcher free agent on the market. If we sign him for 15 million bucks he won't be a backup. Ramon IS the backup.

Yea, Castro would be the back up. I like this signing if we can pull it off, because I think Posada is going to resign with the Yanks.
