Rickey Henderson arrived in camp yesterday for a 10-day stint as a baserunning instructor. Looking fit as always at 48, baseball's all-time stolen base king was asked if he's officially retired yet.
"I don't know what retirement is," he said. "They keep saying, 'You're retired, Rickey.' They won't let me play. This year probably I'll announce that maybe I'm retired . . . Unless somebody says, 'Hey, let me see, can you go out there and play?' "
Henderson is probably the only person who will still hold out the hope of playing again while he's making his induction speech for the Hall of Fame. Henderson last played in the majors in 2003, meaning he'll be eligible for the Hall in 2009.

The Mets had their annual visit from MLB security at 8 a.m. yesterday. Every team is visited during spring training and educated about the dangers and temptations facing big-leaguers with a big-screen presentation.
Of course, the Mets have more than a few veterans, so it must have been interesting to watch 40-somethings Julio Franco, Tom Glavine, Moises Alou, Sandy Alomar Jr. and Ruben Sierra, among other graybeards, getting lectured on topics such as online gambling and other potential pitfalls.
