Default Greatest shortstop of all-time?

Who's the greatest? Is he playing today (Jeter?) or A-Rod (3B now but really a SS). What about Honus Wagner? How good was Ripken? I love these debates. Check out this page, they rank the top 50 ... Top 50 Shortstops of All-Time | The Baseball Page.com

peace,

Slap

Wink Greatest shortstop of all time?

Slap, kind of depends on definition. Fielding- Ozzie Smith hands down. Hitting- Honus Wagner maybe? Slugging- no doubt A-Rod (Seattle-Texas)

Bias as all hell, and I really didnt expect him to be so high on the list, but Barry Larkin. On and off the field just a flat out great ball player. Loyal and driven to say the least...that guy could motivate anyone!

Non Reds pick...Ozzie Smith.

Wagner was the best SS by far, there isn't even any debate. No one comes close.

Barry Larkin > Derek Jeter

I'll never buy that

I'd have to go with the Wizard of Oz or Ripkin. Wagner was pretty nasty too though. A lot of these posts will have some bias. It's easy to say that it isn't exactly that hard to find a great shortstop in baseball's history, but it really comes down to who did what well and when he did it. That's what matters most to me in my opinion.

I had to make sure I loaded this again incase I did actually say I wanted someone to buy into it...not looking like I did though. Surprised there arent more people jumping on with Jeter though in this thread...thats honestly surprising.

Funny you should say Larkin- the one time I saw a game in Cincy was in 2000 and after the game the local sorts radio guy (I think it was Tracy Jones?) made the same claim that Larkin wais the greatest ever. Even the local Reds fans were blasting him.
Larkin has great career stats but he would be under a few guys on my list.
Probably Wagner is the greatest but we've never seen him play. Ozzie would be the best mordern day SS.

It's either Honus Wagner or Alex Rodriguez - and there wouldn't even be a question if Rodriguez hadn't switched over to third base, to accommodate Derek Jeter.

In my mind, Wagner is number 1-A, and Rodriguez is 1-B with an asterisk.

I'd go with Ripken.... Ozzie comes in a close 2nd.

The reason I don't say honus Wagner is, How do we know how good he is? I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be that good these days
