Default 4-11 ESPN power rankings

heading into the 2nd full weekend of this young season here are the espn power rankings posted april 11th..

ESPN.com

Let's look at the A-B-C's of this week's Power Rankings:

A) The Arizona Diamondbacks lead the majors in runs scored and ERA.
B) They have baseball's best record.
C) They have, by far, baseball's best run differential.

So according to our math, here's the winning formula: A + B + C = D, as in the D-backs as the No. 1 team in Major League Baseball, according to our Power Rankings.

As the season progresses, the Rankings will become more and more about "what have you done for me lately?" as opposed to resting on either last year's laurels or preseason prognostications. That's why there's such a huge fluctuation this week -- the 5-5 Red Sox dropping to No. 6, the 1-8 Tigers plummeting to No. 18, and teams like Arizona, St. Louis (No. 11) and Kansas City (No. 14) making the biggest jumps of the week.

here is a link to the article and all the teams listed..

The Marlins should have been a lot higher, and the A's should have got more love. I'll take the Mets at the 3 spot, but I don't think they playing like one right now. Can't wait to see how the power rankings shape up as the season continues to progress.

Wow - what a terrible list.

I understand that they are clearly avoiding overrating or underrating teams, hence the incompetent Tigers being ranked 18th, despite only having one win at the time that this was released. However, that really skews the list in a weird manner - why not just post the season's projections or predictions, and remark upon them from there?

Seriously, though - there's no reason why any team should be below the Tigers, given their ineptitude. There's no reason why the Marlins should be 26, at 6-3... especially when the 4-4 Mets (whom they beat twice in the season opening series) are ranked third.

Bah. This list makes no sense!

DodgerBlue32 i think you would agree the d-backs being in the top spot is the right call..very impressive start to say the least! one of the best teamera's in baseball scoring more runs then anybody and the best run differential in the majors that following a year where they finished with the best record in the NL going to the NLCS sweeping the dodgers and going 5-1 against the rockies after adding some nice arms like haren and qualls they now have one of the better one two punches in the front of their rotation in all of baseball! throw in a bunch of real talented kids that found out how to win last year you had to place them in the top spot! after that 2-10 would be real hard to place..allot of inconsistancy..
but i think all would agree they got the top spot right after two weeks of the season is in the books!

Oh, the D'Backs certainly deserve to be ranked number one. The rest of the rankings after that, though, are questionable at best.

I agree with you there.. but they come out with their list once a week and will do so the rest of the season..after 1 no one is really is taking charge it would have been real hard like i said to make a list! i also agree with you how the tigers should be bringing up the rear after two weeks.

Well, obviously rankings don't necessarily gauge the overall worth of a team, how the season will finish, etc. - but, they should reflect how team-x is doing at the time they are released. As of now, the Tigers aren't anything better than the worst team in the game, and the Mets certainly don't deserve to be ranked third.

I agree Brian, it don't mean a thing if you don't get that ring, but it's still fun to talk about.

The Orioles at #21 and the Braves at #15? I'm a Braves fan and all but come on now...
