A thirty-four year-old outfielder with a substantial injury history and one, uncharacteristically good season is a poor choice for the next five seasons. So, yes - I left off Ordonez.

Wow, I just realized that we'd gone through every "Best (Whatever) in Baseball" positions, except for pitchers. This has been fun DodgerBlue32, even though I don't agree completely with the position consensus. Are we going to do starting and relief pitchers also? Or are we going to end it with right fielders?

I was planning on doing right-handed starter, left-handed starter, and closer. Relievers are too much of a crapshoot, and I feel like there's no real way to gauge them - though, I'm open to suggestions.

I'd also like to do top prospect, but I don't know that too many people have exposure to those statistics and the like.

Thanks for the compliment.

Being 34 is a knock against him I guess when you look at the next five years so Vlad is the better pick (plus he has a cannon), but Mag's career stats are overlooked.

I agree wholeheartedly that Magglio has had a very solid career - he is significantly underrated, to be sure. However, as you alluded to, his age is a knock against him... as are his poor defensive skills and injury history.

I do also fear, though, that Magglio is garnering a bit more praise than he has earned, due to his absurdly strong 2007. The entire Tigers offense was playing insanely well last season, with many players having outlandish final numbers (Polanco, Granderson, and Ordonez, in particular). Ordonez's .363 average was .043 points higher than his previous career high (recorded in 2002) and his OBP of .434 was .062 higher than his previous high (recorded in 2001). He will struggle to repeat those numbers, to be sure.

I'd take Markakis or Francouer over Vlad for the next 5 years. Jeff is going to be a great player.
