Young players need to pipe down

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - As major league teams renew the contracts of players not yet eligible for arbitration or free agency, a disturbing trend seems to be developing.

If you are a player with less than three years of service time, you pretty much have to take whatever the team offers. There is no recourse until you are eligible for salary arbitration. Sometimes, the team offers up a little bit more, but most of the time the player is renewed at the league minimum, or a little bit more, based on a games-played scale. That is just the way it is.

It's so true, be quiet, your playing a game that you say you love, and in turn, you have to prove yourself worthy of the big contracts, they just don't hand them out because you made it to the big leagues.

This new generation of loud, ungrateful players is quite disconcerting... they'll make their money soon enough, that much is guaranteed - for now they just need to realize that negotiations are a two-way street and renewal is usually the result of a player being unwilling to bend. 2009 will bring huge raises for all of these players, to be sure.

I think the money they make for playing a game is quite sickening actually. I'd be happy if my job just paid half of what most MLB players make.
