Default Laker regrets decision to use steroids

Laker regrets decision to use steroids

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Overwhelmed with regret and pained by a shortsighted decision he wishes he could take back, Tim Laker began moving away from his tainted past.

Laker, a former major league catcher who admitted in the Mitchell Report that he injected himself with steroids to gain an edge, expressed sadness and deep remorse Sunday as he discussed cheating the game he loves.

"I made a poor decision, a mistake," a contrite and ashamed Laker said. "And all I can do is ask for forgiveness and move on."

It's too bad that others wouldn't step up and face the REAL truth about the use of steroids and suffer the consequences?

I'm sure this will take years and years before the total amount of ball players who have used steroids is truly found out.

Most of the big guys should take a cue from Laker who was man enough to admit what he did and can now be forgiven. Too many have resorted to lying, maintaining silence, or letting an attorney speak for them. The public is very forgiving, but does not take well to being lied to.

Kudos to Laker for being intelligent and mindful in admitting his mistakes.

I am hoping that more and more players will continue to come forward, so as to further deepen and harshen the penalties that Bonds and Clemens will incur. Public opinion will continue to sour against them as others are forgiven... which will, in turn, play a role in the juries decision making process in rendering a verdict.
